Air Conditioning often accounts for more than 50% of a buildings energy usage because of this the government introduced the TM44 Air Conditioning survey. The surveys aim is to provide system owners and operators with information about the systems performance and can identify ways that will help cut CO2 emissions saving energy and money.

As with most legislation the responsibility for Air Conditioning Energy Efficiency Inspections lies with the owner or operator of the system.

In short The Energy Performance Directive states it is now a legal and mandatory requirement that buildings with a total Air Conditioning capacity of 12kW or more must have an inspection carried out every 5 years by an accredited inspector. The inspections are to ensure the systems are operating efficiently and fit for purpose.
